Outside our room. Africa Sky Guest House |
I am writing this 4 days later and there is so much to tell, but I must try to recapture the excitement we both felt, and indeed a certain trepidation about the extent of our next adventure. Only a few months since we decided to fulfill a long held dream of seeing Africa, the day arrived for us to start our journey. We packed up the 'condo' and put it in storage in Grimsby, then dropped off the truck at a friends and got a limo to the airport. An overnight flight to London and a 12 hour stopover, which we spent in a room at the Sofitel, right in the terminal.... expensive but with two overnight flights, we were SO glad we forked out for this one. We slept quite well and woke up in time to go back through security to catch our 10 hr 30 min over-night flight to Johannesburg . We arrived in Jo'Burg and were met by a driver from the Africa Sky Guest House. 10 minute drive and a world away from the hustle and bustle of the airport. It is a haven of tranquility and friendliness. Our room was beautiful. After a light salad for lunch we had a nap, then sorted out our luggage for our Safari... leaving our main luggage at the guest house until we return on Tuesday.
Our beef filet dinner was exquisite.... After dinner we enjoyed the rest of our wonderful Alto Cab Sauv sitting by the roaring fire, called a 'boma', in the pool area. We finally put our heads down for a well needed night of slumber, getting very excited about starting our Safari tomorrow. Highly recommend the Africa Sky to anyone needing a retreat near Jo'burg airport. We have been taking Malaria pills for 3 days and no major side effects.
