Wed/Thur Apr 6/7 2016 - Pensacola, Florida

Wed/Thur Apr 6/7, 2016- Pensacola, Florida
Wed - Drive to Pensacola
Relaxing morning getting ready to drive to Pensacola. Left about 10 am and despite the fact that we drove through the rest of Louisiana, then Mississippi, then Alabama and then into Florida, we arrived after 3 due to some roadworks along the way. It was supposed to be 31/4 hours but we were over 5 hours on the road. Regardless we got a good spot and set up ready to explore Pensacola tomorrow, which we didn't really do on our first trip.
Thurs - Joe Patti's and Perdido
We realized that there wasn't much in the city of Pensacola for us to explore that we hadn't seen and we didn't feel like going to the Naval Air Museum, even though we have heard that it was very good. So we went straight ti Joe Patti's Seafood store and stocked up on shrimp (They steam them and spice them for you after you buy them fresh), redfish, Steamed Lobster claws, Cajun crab dip, some sauces and bread etc etc ... YUUUUmmmmmYYYYY!!
The beignet place outside, which were looking forward to was closed for lunch (sheesh!!!) and after a bit of research we found that there was one in Alabama.. so off we went along to Perdido Key. We crossed the bridge and Janice had another urge for fresh oysters, and as we crossed the bridge onto the key, what to our wondering eyes to we see but a sign for "OYSTER BAR"... 12 fresh shucked oysters and a taste of seafood chowder, we continued our drive into Alabama for the Cafe Beignets... we arrived looking forward to a sweet treat to find that they were closed at 'noonish' according to their informative and upsetting sign!!!! Arrgghh!! Undaunted, but giving up hope of a beignet to tease cousin Gillie with, we took the long route home to explore the countryside. Passing a place called 'The Roadkill Cafe' we made the executive decision not to stop, not wanting to expand our culinary expedition with roasted (flattened) Armadillo!! Good call methinks!!  But we needed to top up... after all oysters are not that filling. So we got back to the rig and had some redfish with a few of the shrimp, saving the rest if the shrimp and the lobster claws for tomorrow.  Great stay in Pensacola and glad we got to see Perdido Key... ON TO GEORGIA tomorrow!!
